It is a wonder how she and two of her three siblings went on to make something of themselves and have a seemingly "normal" life with the upbringing they had. A true example of that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger...

Nancy I'm about a quarter of the way through. I'm sure hoping she gets to the part where her father is an irresponsible drunk with a paranoid streak and her mother a co-dependent head case. They are proof that breeding is something anyone can do.

If she'd grown up 15 years later, she would have been in foster care after the burn incident. Her book would have been a lot different. And leaving an infant with three other small kids in the back of a U-haul with the door swinging open.........geez.

The thing is, I'm seeing good stuff that her parents did -- like eschewing Christmas and giving them stars on their birthdays.
