Read in July, 2009

The author at least was wise enough not to try to write in Jane's voice and sticks to Cassandra's POV, whose fictional voice certainly has none of her sister's sparkle. I thought the two sisters came across as more nuanced than some have portrayed them, but wished the author had dared invent more conversation. Shame on the publisher (or was it the author?) for subtitling it "A Jane Austen novel"--neither a novel nor a biography, this would be best labelled a fictional memoir. A novelist would never apologize for inventing conversation!
