I watched the Will Smith film last year. This book is nothing like that film. But ever since I read an essay by a guy named Blackstone, I no longer believe that "the book is always better than the movie." Both are good, but to say one is better than the other would be like saying that the RESIDENT EVIL video game is better than the RESIDENT EVIL film. Apples and oranges, right? Better yet, ribs and beer.

I'm not sure I can explain why I liked this book so much. It reminded me of ROBINSON CRUSOE ... with vampire-zombies. I liked how Robert Neville spends his time trying to debunk the vampire legends. I liked how he wonders if Muslim or Atheist vampires would fear the Cross. I see why this book is a classic, and why guys like George Romero are indebted to it.
