bookshelves: re-shelved, to-read

Utterly frustrating book. Written in verse (a series of sonnets), but with a random meter. Gore Vidal is quoted on the cover, as saying it's "The Great Californian Novel."

This book was a gift from someone who loved it and thinks it's her favourite book (but has since asked for it back following my reaction to it). It is the only book I've ever tried to read that really made me angry with frustration.

Perhaps, I need to read more to "appreciate" its wonder, but I could only bear 10 pages...
