A love story...though not in the typical sense (it's a Murakami book after all). Much more straight forward than The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, which I liked a lot. But I think I enjoyed this one even more, partly because I felt it was more original (The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle reminded me too much of Thomas Pynchon so lost some points for originality). Though some may find parts of it a bit depressing and morbid, the dialogue is tight, the imagery vivid, the characters complex and entertaining, and it does throw out some ideas for one to think about while sipping a little scotch and listening to Norwegian Wood. What's there not to love?
