I really liked the main character, Agnes Shanklin. In fact, all the characters were beautifully captured. T.E. Lawrence and Gertrude Bell! Wonderful!

The first 185 pages of this book were excellent. Unfortunately, the last 15 pages of the book completely jumped the shark.

"Of course, you've had some time to get used to the idea that I've been speaking to you from beyond the grave..."

Napoleon and Ptolemy XIII are there too. Ugh. Way to ruin an otherwise exceptionally good book.

Why, Mary Doria Russell, WHY?
