He was a fan of <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/104086.The_Summer_Tree_The_Fionavar_Tapestry_Book_1_" title="The Summer Tree (The Fionavar Tapestry, Book 1) by Guy Gavriel Kay">The Fionavar Tapestry</a> and felt sure I would like them.
