 rating: 3 of 5 stars Some of Moore's books I get into and others just don't do it for me. This one was kind of a middle of the road read. It started out slow, but I got into it by the end.
 
 Tucker Case is a pilot for Mary Jean cosmetics out of Texas with a little bit of a drinking/girl problem. When the attentions of a prostitute and one too many drinks cause him to crash, his career looks to be at an end, with his boss threatening bodily harm for the bad publicity and the prostiture talking lawsuit. So an offer from a doctor practicing on a remote island seems like a great way to get away and still earn a living...a better one even than he'd been making before. 
 
 With the help of a cross dressing Filipino and a talking fruit bat, Tucker makes his way to the island only to realize that something isn't quite right. The doctor and his wife seem to be hiding something, and rather than an employee, Tucker feels more like a prisoner. 
 
 Meanwhile, the islanders await the coming of the Sky Priestess, who brings them word from their "god" Vincent and takes with her those "chosen." 
 
 This story takes on a few twists, but not so many that they blow your mind. Once you get into it, it becomes a good read, though not as funny as some of this other ones. However, the absurdity of it all is still classic Moore.

Some of Moore's books I get into and others just don't do it for me. This one was kind of a middle of the road read. It started out slow, but I got into it by the end.

I'm glad i found your review. I'm a big fan of Moore, and I'm just having problems getting into this book. but since you said you had a bit of the same problem i think I'll keep giving it a chance
