Technically, this was a re-read, but it has been so long that I had too vague a memory of this book about which I remembered mainly this: I loved it in 1984. Just the Babel fish segment lingered as a scene of pure genius. I remembered little else.

It lived up to the billing that glimmered in the sulci of my cerebral cortex (or wherever such things glimmer). Smart, fast, philosophical, and of course extraordinarily funny and creative.
