Anne of Avonlea (Anne of Green Gables No. 2)
by Lucy Maud Montgomery
I love this series. I actually have an entire LMM shelf devoted to her books, bios and criticisms! Anne of Green Gables was first published in March 1908, so my friend Karey and I are going to do a reread of the whole series starting March 2008. I'm very excited. *g*
I've never been to PEI, but it's a lifetime goal for me. I am determined to get there at least once, if not more. I never knew there was a conference, though!
Thanks for the warning. *g* You are welcome to borrow anything you like from it. I still have a few more crit books to get, but they're so damned expensive!
One of my favorites in my collection is Shelley of Green Gables. There was this website that was taking books in the public domain and allowing people to personalize them - characters, locations, etc. If you suggested one they could use, you'd get a free copy. They were able to do the first three Anne books, and I got a GG for free. I kept Gilbert and Avonlea the same, of course, and personalized Marilla, Matthew and Diana with my friends. Goofy, yet totally awesome.
Hey Sheila :-) I think I have a couple of books here that I can send to you. I'll check it out tomorrow and send a list to you :-)

One of the gaping holes in my book collection is the Anne collection--I used to read them at the library, so I've never owned my own set. I've decided to start picking them up a book at a time at my used bookstore and rereading them. After-words didn't have Green Gables, so I started with Avonlea. I think this one has some of the funniest Anne-related hijinks (falling through the shed, the blue hall, her red nose when welcoming a famous author). Plus it has Hester Gray, which is one of my favorite stories within the stories.
