I really wanted to like Forever Amber. In fact until about a quarter of the way into the book I really did. The writing was superb. You really get a vivid description of life in England during the time period it was written about through the eyes of the heroine. But then comes the problem. About after a quarter of the way into the book I realized I didn't care for the heroine. She's a product of her time and I didn't mind that, and a lot of the things she goes through are not uncommon for women of her time either. But I just simply began to get annoyed with her floating from one desperate situation to another and I didn't care what happened to her after a while. Which was a shame since I found the writing to be excellent. Oh well.
