I've already put the second book in the series on hold. The mystery takes a back seat to some great character development that focuses on a dysfunctional family who run a private investigations service. Free spirited, differently ethical Isabel started working for her parents unofficially when she was in the single digits. Her brother, who Isabel refers to as the perfect son, got out of the business as soon as he possibly could and became a successful lawyer. Sister Rae came along when Izzy and brother David were nearly grown, and resembles Harriet the Spy in enough ways that I adored her immediately. Uncle Ray is an alcoholic with a gambling addiction who disappears on "lost weekends" that serve as mini-vacations when family members go to track him down in whatever seedy hotel or casino he happens to be slumming at. Everyone spies on each other, Izzy's mom and dad run background checks on all of her boyfriends, Rae does photo surveillance on complete strangers, etc. etc. Fun fast summer read, highly recommended. PS- this is the audiobook entry, I couldn't seem to find the regular book listed here for some reason.
