a collection of stories that often end too soon. I was actually afraid that the final story would provide no closure to the entire text and was happy to be wrong. But still, there is alot lacking in Johnson's text that is only somewhat justified by his sparse but sometimes poetic style. Ultimately there isn't enough here to recommend the book as a great collection of interrelated stories. and there aren't many stories here that can stand on their own (even Emergency, one of the longest, feels incomplete).
By the end, I'm not sure if the comment about the narrator has to do with addiction or becoming a better person or simply surviving when you know you are a fuck up.
I might pick up something else by Johnson, but this is not a book I'd recommend readily.
