Midnight Pearls is a retelling of "The Little Mermaid." Pearl mysteriously appears in the ocean during a storm. She is rescued by Finneas the fisherman and he and his wife, Mary, raise Pearl as their daughter. Pearl becaomes friends with James, the prince. A plot to murder the king and the arrival of Kale and Faye, merkin siblings, complicate Pearl and James' budding romance. Good plotting and a bit of romance will appeal to teen readers.
