really liked it

Deaver comes back for #5 of the Lincoln Rhyme series with everything you love about him--the ability to drop fully into a world that you (probably) know nothing about and make it seem like your new environment. In this case it is magic, from illusionists to quick change artists and everything in between. As always, Deaver does a great job wrapping you up in the story and making it feel authentic. Maybe the only two negatives I had for this one were (a) just a few too many twists and turns, especially near the end, for me not to feel toyed with as a reader, and (b) no character development in the Rhyme/Sachs characters. Neither of them struggles with any personal issues, there is no aspect of the relationship at play, and the characters seem merely present in the novel instead of advancing through it. But all in all, an extremely enjoyable read.
