Picked this up because I wanted to have read the book before the film came out XD I'm jsut one of those people.

Was surprised at just how similar this book is to the Disney film, though at the back the author does say she did a whole lot of research it wasn't terribly original.

Kyle (later Adrian) is indeed a hideous specimen of 16 year old male and Linda is a wonderful 'beauty'. I liked how his beastly form is merely looked upon as a disease of some sort by his father and the various doctors they go to- not like the girl who ran screaming from him at the Halloween party.

I enjoyed how Flinn included references to literary classics and how Linda enjoys to read and in his exile, Kyle's turns to books for comfort.

Although, his turning 'cheesy' and saying things like 'my love' and watching her sleep was too much of a change in just ONE YEAR. This guy was a total jerk off and ass his entire life thus far and then he gets all sentimental? At least in the film it was gradual, it felt sudden here.

I think 2 years wasn't long enough, but that was probably so the two of them could still go back to high school, which they did, but I feel like the whole declaration of love and ever after implication would have worked better had they been together more than 1 year and have been older than 16 when they said it. I think setting it in college at the end would have made for a more believable love, and they should have been together for 5 years or so.

Other than that it was an entertaining read.
