Clever retelling of the Rapunzel storyline with a bit of Jack and the Beanstalk and the Wild West thrown in. Saturated with brilliant colors and feisty characters, this is a fabulous fairy tale retelling which makes both its hero and heroine smart, funny, kind, and much more flawed and well-rounded than their usual incarnations. I was a little worried that Jack would fall into the Strong-Female-Protagonist-Means-Wimpy-Pointless-Male-Love-Interest scenario, but he holds up pretty well as a snarky, fun supporting character. Best of all, in addition to the self-reliant female lead, we get a variety of racial/cultural representations. Great read!
