I'm not quite sure what to think about this. Its reputation is of a book that shows what goes on inside a guy's head when it comes to women, parents, relationships, life, etc. To some degree, I think that's right. Without getting TOO personal :-), I can identify with plenty that goes on inside this character's head. But where it loses me a little bit is when he behaves irresponsibly. I guess I'm saying I understand when you THINK these things, but you're supposed to be mature enough to know what you can and can't DO (or say).

This is what confuses me about Jud Apatow movies and the like, as well. What's with these guys? And what's with the audiences that like seeing a man-child have to learn everything the hard way, or require a woman with her head on straight to act like the only adult in the relationship. I must be getting old, because I just want to tell these guys to grow up! (There's a little part in this book where Laura expresses a similar thought, and I caught some anxiety on the same point in the recent movie Away We Go. You know what being responsible is, just do it! Don't be lazy.)
