A children's mystery novel in the Blue Balliett vein, the Mysterious Benedict Society twists and turns at a fairly rapid pace despite its fairly intimidating length (512 pages, but could easily be 100 pages shorter). Characters are sold, with good kid power leads for both boys and girls. Well set up for sequels with only one forced plot point at the end (no spoiler for you!)...recommended for boys in the more advanced reader mode, not for beginners...
