I wanted to like this book much more than I actually did. Nothing wrong with the writing, per say, but it was just a real slog to get through. Very little action, just a ton of politics and some intrigue. Would probably be far more interesting with a strong background in 17th century European history: certainly my husband appreciated it more than I did. Then again, my husband could have explained the causes and outcomes of the 30 Years War before reading this book! :}
Things started happening at the end, though, and the sequel ("1634: The Baltic War") is starting out much more excitingly
