it was amazing
bookshelves: science-fiction, dystopia
Read from April 14 to 16, 2010 , read count: 1

For the longest time, I had no interest in reading this series. NONE. It wasn't until my taste in books spun toward a more mystical/sci-fi direction that I even thought about reading it. And I'm so glad I did.

Tally's only goal in life is to be Pretty. Which, luckily, happens to every Ugly on their 16th birthday. But when Tally befriends a girl who runs away because she doesn't want to be Pretty, she's forced to bring her back or never become Pretty herself.

I thought this book was quite similar to The Host. Think about it. You've got a "utopian" society where everyone's happy. You've got a different sect of society (in this story called the Specials, in The Host, they're Seekers) who try to keep the peace in a scary way. You have a "mythical" society of outcasts who have hidden from authorities. The list goes on. It really does.

And since I'm a big Host fan, this was difinitely NOT a drawback. And considering this was published three years BEFORE The Host, it's ideas are more original.

I'm really excited to read the rest of the series now!

Cara I've heard so much about this book for a LONG time but I've never gotten around to reading it. It's not that I don't want to but they are just SO many books at there but now I'll have to make an effort to put this on the top of my to-read list. Nice review;)
