This book was a nice escape. I really enjoyed curling up and spending time with the main character. He was such a good, simple priest. The tragedies and set backs in the first half of the book were a bit predictable and unnecessary, but even then the good Father's character carried the day. The second half, which takes place in a remote mission in China, is full of adventure as Father Chisholm battles harsh envirnments, plague and warlords all while trying to make a difference in an entirely different culture. This book is an uplifting way to get away for a few precious moments.
