First off, Randa is a really good friend of mine. We attended Sarah Lawrence College together. I am very proud of her and her dedication to her work. But this is not why A Map of Home gets such a great review from me.

This is an excellent first novel. The dialogue is wonderful, it's catchy, and I really get a sense of the characters, even though I felt she doesn't spend too much time on traditional character studies. I know how the main character feels. But Randa does not spend pages on descriptions. I love this. I like to get to the point of things. I love it when an author writes as if she is telling you the story in person. Yes, I did read one of her short stories back in college that turned out to be about a page of the book. That was over ten years before the novel ever came out. If I could remember that story all those years later, that proves that randa is an excellent storyteller and I can't wait to read more from her.
