Short stories, often dramatic and wrenching, sometimes not quite on target. Generally better than average.

The speculative elements of this are absolutely uncompromising. Nothing is explained; there's no exposition; you learn only just enough to follow what's going on (and occasionally not even that). On the whole, I liked this effect, the worlds and cultures unfolding like characters. Sometimes I just felt like I was missing that one bit of information that would have made the whole thing make sense.

My favorite stories: "Singing My Sister Down," "My Lord's Man," "Earthly Uses," and "Yowlinin" (though I want the author to explain to me why it was necessary to change the spelling of 'monkey' to 'munkee').
