Aloft is turning out to be a pretty damn good read. So on the mark with so many observations about family, aging, suburban lifestyle and relationships. My only qualm is that sometimes the narrator is just a bit too knowing and insightful for someone who supposedly spent the bulk of their existence oblivious to the many sentiments he seems so in touch with now as he nears sixty. Certainly, we should all hope that some measure of clarity and understanding awaits us further down the path, but often it feels more like the author's literary panache poking through rather than these revelations forming in the voice and tone of the protagonist.
