I didn't want to like this book, especially given that it was written by a Columbia College alum, and besides my experience with Columbia students bringing bed bugs to the neighborhood, I also have several friends at the Art Institute, so I am obligated to dislike people from Columbia and the art they produce. In addition, any love story runs the risk of being insufferably sappy bordering on unreadable, particularly for an old cynic like myself.
However, far from making me retch my guts out in a desperate attempt to escape the syrupy sweetness of lurve, this book pleasantly surprised me. It was entertaining, beautifully written, the characters had depth, and the plot kept me turning pages. Who knew? Some people at Columbia College have actual talent....
I highly recommend this book to any and all love cynics and hopeless romantics alike.
