super interesting and well researched. Definitely convinced me that GMO's could be useful in Africa. Sad to see that the reason they have not been used is all politics and with hardly any regard to the starving people who could benefit.
Large argument though based on the fact that GMO's have not yet exhibited any risk to the consumer and he backs up this argument with plenty of studies however there are equal amounts of studies that claim GMO's are harmful and carry carcinogens. Would have to read up on the topic more to fully understand this claim.
All in all a bit repetitive but convincing.

I didn't know you had such an interest in African history/studies/culture. I do too. I saw a book in Barnes & Nobel yesterday that I really want to read. It's a 600 page book all about Africa. Each chapter discusses a different country and it's really in depth. The guy who wrote it is the director of the Royal African Society, and has been living in and studying the continent of Africa for 30 years.

Genetically Modified Organism so like for example scientists can select for specific traits that can make a crop more resistant to insects so you don't have to use so much chemical pesticides
there's a lot of controversy with GMO's and possible health risks (although this guy claims there are no documented cases)
also a lot of political controversy over who owns the GMO seed and it gets really complicated when a GMO seed cross pollinates onto some small town farmers field and now who technically owns the crops because corporations own the patent to specific GMOs .. stuff like that
but for Africa it's crazy that we don't use GMO's considering how much effort is being put into farming with little return .. when you could simply plant a seed that will enable you to use less pesticides even a GMO that can continue to grow during large droughts like we have put more money into sending food aid to Africa then we have in helping them sustain their own crops
unless there ARE documented cases of health risks cause that's a different story
its complicated .. but yeah .. unless you buy organic you've been eating GMO's in the US since like the 90s
