Quiet Strength is an incredible book that goes deep into the ever so changing life of Coach Tony Dungy. At every twist and turn in the book Dungy dedicates his life's work to "God's Plan." The first 8 chapters revert back to the hard times of Coach Dungy's life, his experiences playing in the NFL, being traded to 3 different teams in two seasons, and the constant struggle to make since of the world around him. After giving up his passion of playing football, the book goes into detail about the struggles coaches face in the NFL. Dungy was an assistant coach for a number of teams in his 14 year span of searching for a head coaching position. After being forced to up and move his family numerous times, the lord finally reveals his plan to Coach Dungy with a call from the Tamba Bay Buccaneers. The book continues illustrating the difficulties faced by coaches and players in the NFL and how Dungy allowed his faith in God to be his guidance through all the hardships. If you want to read the book for yourself and don't want me ruining the end for you stop reading my review now.....Ok, for all of you that just can't wait to read it yourself. Dungy continues to build his coaching reputation around the league and building the Buc's into a championship caliber team. After loosing 3 consecutive playoff games without scoring a touchdown in any of them, Dungy was released from the Buccaneers. The release was nothing new to Coach Dungy. He had been released from many coaching positions before, but the timing was of the worst. Tony's mother had passed away the week before the game, and he'd spent his day at his mothers funeral, just 5 days before being fired from the Buc's. Although the timing was terrible, and the Dungy family had no place to call home in their time of need, Tony never questioned the lords plan for him, and saw it only as God's opportunity for him to serve his duties somewhere different. Coach Dungy was later offered a position as the head coach of the Indianappolis Colts. The team was good, and Dungy needed a job. With his children in school, and his wife stern on living in the Tampa sun, Dungy had to make the hard decision of leaving his family to fulfill his duties as coach of the colts. Dungy is a family man, and believes in putting his family first. That is the main reason, even after winning two championships with the Colts he left Indianapolis to return to his family in Tampa. At the end of the book Dungy states "I served my purpose to bring god into young players hearts, for now god wants me with my family." This book was an easy read. When I performed the book level test on it, the book scored a 9th grade level. The book is great inspiration to anyone pursuing a coaching position, or even attempting to play a sport at any level. Dungy is an inspiring individual that gives truth to the phrase "nothing comes easy, but it comes for a purpose." Quiet Strength, although wrote from a coaching/player perspective would also be a good recommendation for people in search of spiritual meaning. Through the darkest of moments, Dungy never questioned his faith, and trusted that god would provide.
