This is the only real mis-step in Hornby's catalog. It's not that its particularly bad, even bad Hornby is better than most people's best, it just isn't quite up to par. The whole book feels a bit forced and is overly bitter and depressing. Most of his books are not overly uplifting but this one stands out for its bleak outlook. The ending alone left me depressed for days. I don't agree with a lot of the conclusions he arrives at either.

That said, it is worth the read. Just make sure you follow it up with something uplifting.
