Almost as good as Red Thunder. Again great characterization, the people come alive. I'll keep these two until my daughter is old enough to read them. I guess when she is 13, 14 it would a good age to start her on realistic SF with strong female (and male) characters and the topics of substance abuse, hangovers, sex, life... I do like that both these books do not shirk toilets, vomit, etc... these are parts of life. Some of the politics in here are interesting - quite existentialist, lots of self determination, lots of hard choices, but trying for a democratic approach. (Of course, keeping up my belief in the possibilities or the European Union and the United Nations, I had to disagree at some points...). I will try the third one in this series (?), even though the descriptions I am finding on the net do sound less convincing...
