The best part of Out of Range is the setting. Next best is the main character Joe Pickett, a game warden in Wyoming, who is not a macho man type. Then there is the mystery of who killed Will Jensen, the game warden in Jackson. As events unfold, characters savory and unsavory march across the stage of the wilderness of Wyoming. The only problem with the story is that some of the characters aren't developed enough to make a difference in the plot. Otherwise, this is an engrossing read with the added benefit of the fine mountain vistas of Wyoming playing a large role in the story.
