It’s been so long since I read this book but I wanted to jot down a potent reaction that has stayed with me from reading it. This story falls into that category of sequel in which the author trades on the well-being of several established characters to up the ante on drama. It reminds me of the second of two made-for-TV Ewok adventures which as I remember was a real downer. Sequels often head in this melancholy direction. In so doing they remind us that to the extent part one ended with a “Happily Ever After” feeling, the sequel can’t help but be a downer.

That being said, I found the ending of this book an interesting twist. It wasn’t necessarily what I wanted, but I felt the author made an interesting choice for the protagonist’s fate. And that leads to a discussion about the exciting possibilities of venturing on to a part three. But that’s another review. I recommend this book for people who enjoyed the original, Dragon’s Blood .
