really liked it
bookshelves: adult, death, mystery

This book was recommended by a coworker and I had a hard time getting into it for the first few chapters. None of the characters are terribly likable and the book began by describing 4 work acquaintances who work in a box lunch factory and their soulless home lives. I never did come to like any of them, even those characters who were introduced later, but I found I didn't need to like them to be interested in the story and learning about modern Japanese life (although you can't believe everything you read...) It is really more of a thriller than a mystery, because the plot is transparent the whole way through.

I can't really figure out how to describe the book without rewriting the entire plot, so I am just going to recommend that you try it out. Give it 100 pages and if you don't like it, then it isn't your cup of tea.
