I enjoyed this book tremendously. T.S. is a wonderful narrator; I found myself rooting for him -- not just to make it to D.C, but also to arrive at some peace and closure concerning his role in his brother's death and the breakdown of his family life. I loved all of the illustrations/maps and found them most intriguing when they revealed more about TS or a family member than TS may have been fully aware. I did find the chpts. about his great-great grandmother a bit slow-going. I see their nice usefulness, paralleling much of TS's own experience of the scientific community in the East, but I felt that they should either have revealed more about his mother's state of mind (which still remains much of a mystery to TS -- and readers as well -- at the novel's conclusion) or have been shortened/edited more. These chapters almost felt like their own undeveloped novel. Still, overall, a fantastic read i'll recommend to anyone who'll listen to me!
