Cindy's review - 4 stars
This book is a fantastical tale based on Emmett Till's murder in Money Mississippi in 1955. I was interested to read it, because of all the unfortunate episodes that happened (and continue to happen) in our country's civil rights history, the sad story of Emmett Till is one I can't forget.
The town of Money Mississippi is the narrator in this story, and it traces the generations leading up to and from Emmett's murder in 1955.
I was hoping for a different ending for Emmett in this fictional tale, but even though he dies the story offers a gentler conclusion. He is reunited in death with his childhood sweetheart, and there is some resolution. It ends with the arrival of Hurricane Katrina...a connection to the title.
I loved the imagery, the magical-ness of this historical fiction read.
