With This Charming Man, Marian Keyes hits her stride as a novelist with her best novel yet, telling the stories of four women who are shaped by one man

Paddy de Courcy is Ireland's debonair politician, the "John F. Kennedy Jr. of Dublin." His charm and charisma have taken hold of the country and the tabloids, not to mention our four heroines: Lola, Grace, Marnie, and Alicia. But though Paddy's winning smile is fooling Irish minds, the broken hearts he's left in his past offer a far more truthful look into his character.

Narrated in turn by each woman, This Charming Man explores how their love for this one man has shaped their lives. But in true Marian Keyes fashion, this is more than a story of four love affairs. It's a testament to the strength women find in themselves through work, friendship, and family, no matter what demons may be haunting their lives. Depression, self-doubt, domestic abuse—each of these women has seen tough times in life, and it's through Keyes's wonderful storytelling ability that these subjects are approached with the appropriate tone and candor. Her deft touch provides a gripping story and, ultimately, a redemptive ending.

This book was written from several POV. The portion of the story I liked best was from the perspective of "Lola". Unfortunately, Keyes chose to write Lola in a style that I found difficult to read. She used short choppy sentences that were similar to what you might read as someone's FaceBook status remarks leaving out pronouns and such. I suppose she was trying to give Lola a unique voice... but I found it irritating. Even the dialog between Lola and other characters had this same choppy style which made no sense to me.
The portion of the story I liked least was from the POV of "Marnie". Other readers might not be as overly sensitive to her conflict as I felt. As much as I did like her character it was hard for me to feel compassion towards her and I found myself dreading reading on when I'd turn to a new section marked "Marnie" and sometimes marked "Grace" as well, who's story intertwined.
I did enjoy the story and love the depth of Keyes' characters and how humor shines through. Readers will understand the premise early but still be surprised at how things come together.
It's not exactly a page-turner, a mild curiosity will build and in the end you'll be happy you read it.
