The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker provided a lively discussion for my book club due to the inconstancies in the writing and not the theme of the novel. Mostly told in the first person, the book fell apart when the author began telling the reader things Truly could never have known. If the book had been written from a different perspective completely, we think it would have worked better. Interesting characters and concept, but perhaps the author tried to tackle too many issues at one time...bullying, rape, alcoholism, physical disease, depression are just a few. We all agreed that we loved the beginning with most of the characters were interesting at first but we quickly tired of the "poor me" attitude by Truly..by the end who cared if Serena returned or not. In my opinion, the quilt was the most interesting character and I believe it called out to Truly, to rediscovered, to work it's spell.
