WAYLANDER is another very good pulp adventure from David Gemmell that helped cement his reputation as his era's finest writer of heroic fantasy.

The story is nothing new but Gemmell's grasp of character is what makes this work. His unorthodox creations are some of the finest the genre has to offer and once again he deals with themes of what it means to be a hero, good and evil and much more besides. Waylander is a great lead here and there's fine support, for instance from the warrior priest.

The action scenes are spellbinding and the novel is as well paced as the rest of the author's output. A siege scenario is particularly effective. My only complaint is that this one is quite short so it doesn't have the same depth as some of Gemmell's greatest works, but it's still very good.
