If you liked John leCarre spy novels, you'd like this book. Set in the Netherlands in the waning days of WWII, during the "hunger winter", 2 spies that the Allies dropped in try to survive in a place of hunger and random death, while vying for the love of a local girl and trying to unify the disparate resistance groups. This story alternates with fifty years later, when the granddaughter tries to unravel the clues to what happened that her grandfather left her when he committed suicide. The resolution is surprising!
