This really was a wonderful story... however, as a read-aloud to my kids? Maybe not the best choice I made. The novel is written in Olde English, so reading the speech aloud gets kind of tiresome. It also was a bit intense for my little ones. Edward nearly gets his throat slashed by a creepy guy who thinks he's an archangel... he witnesses two women burned at the stake while their daughters scream nearby... and spends time in an unsavory prison. When we were finished with it, both kids said they enjoyed the story, but I do wonder if they paid much attention. Overall, a great story- and worth the read, but maybe more for an older tween to teenager.
