Great read. Involving story with Dickensian character development. Honest portrayal of contemporary issues seen from the perspective of an Idaho neighborhood. Humorous and heartbreaking by turns as characters evolve and devolve. Sympathetic understanding of teenage sexual issues. Universal themes. I recommend it highly.

Merged review:

After reading Vestal McIntyre's short story collection, I had to read LAKE OVERTURN. And what a read. An entire town is exposed and the people in it. The characters are well-drawn and some of the engagements are wonderful and some are heartbreaking. As a gay man, I especially related to the growing up of the gay characters. A wonderful book and I look forward to the author's next work. (I think it would make a thoughtful independent film and I've cast it in my mind.
