It's settled for me. Ashley Antoinette was most definitely riding the coattails of JaQuavis Coleman. If Coleman's debut The Dopeman's Wife and Antoinette's debut The Prada Plan show anything- it's that.
While I struggled to get through TPP because of how amatuer the entire thing was, this was entirely the opposite. This is actually more like two books in one in my opinion and after reading the "first" story I was scared that he'd ended it far too quickly and what else would he do with the rest of the book? I had no reason to worry- he kept it going and turned it into something totally different.
The main character is Nautica, who I loved, for all her faults she felt just like someone we all know. She was very relatable and I loved reading about her. There are more than a few supporting characters so I won't get into all that- I don't want to give anything away anyway.
The ending was awesome and this is one of the very few books that I can't wait to read the sequel for. I'm extremely interested in what the hell Coleman will do next with Nautica.
The only complaints I have are the typos- there is really no need for that. Get a better publishing company or something. I would do it myself before I let a product with my name on it be on the market with mistakes. The second complaint I have is a small one but a pet peeve of mine. Using song lyrics. There is a time and place for everything and Lil Wayne lyrics belong in songs. Not books. Hearing that someone body is "marked up like the subway in Harlem" only makes me want to put the book down and go pop in a Lil Wayne CD. Leave that alone and you'll be fine JaQuavis.
