I worked as a library aide the first semester of seventh grade. I loved it because I got to straighten shelves and look at books for an hour each day. That is how I found the books of Tamora Pierce. Her "Lioness Quartet" were my favorite books throughout Junior High. In May she was at Mrs. Nelson's book store in La Verne, pushing her newest series. In listening to her talk I was captivated by how much thought she puts into each book, so I had high hopes for this one. However, I am not 13 anymore and her stories don't weave the same spell. I feel she tells the same story over and over again in each series. A headstrong girl works hard in a world that doesn't fully accept her. Over the course of time she overcomes some tremendous obstacle, finds true love, and a place for herself. And when I was 13 I needed a book like that to reassure me that everything would be okay when it felt like nothing was. So I am grateful to Ms. Pierce for that.
