This book is a pastiche of ghost "theory," personal anecdotes, ghost hunting how-to's, and self help. I thought that the combination of those things might drive me a little bonkers but as I reflect on the book, I realize how much I enjoyed it.

Van Praagh can be slightly eccentric but he is also very practical about the afterlife. Okay so he believes that he has had otherworldly connections to both Anne Frank and Abraham Lincoln. Why not? You don't have to buy that to buy into his blueprint of the various stages of ghostly existence. I have to admit, it is quite logical.

If you believe that we are essentially our thoughts, then it is plausible that we exist as those thoughts after we die. It is also plausible that we can attract and repel like-minded people and ghosts while we are living. I probably will not do the meditation exercises to attract ghosts and I certainly won't be going down the laundry list of items to go on ghost hunts. But I'll be on the lookout if any person, place, or thing from the afterlife wants to get my attention.
