How and why did humans begin worshiping gods and sacrificing animals (and other people)? What are myths made of? Where did the idea of good vs. evil begin? What are the common themes of all myths?

If you have ever wondered about these things, as have I, then you will enjoy this little book by one of the foremost authorities on mythology of the last century. Very easy reading (I read it last week at the beach), it explains one man's view about why we believe what we believe. The journey outward is the same as the journey inward, and while there are no more unexplored horizons left on Earth, the stars await us, and beckon.
