I expected a totally frivolous read given the title, but since this book seemed to be everywhere, I decided to give it a chance. I'm glad I did because it was so much more than boys and the beach. Also, it was all boys and the beach. In a very good way.

I've read a lot of books as of late with the theme of a controlling friend (I'm not using the term "frenemy" but I guess that's what I'm getting at) and power issues within friendships, and I must say it is very exciting when it's tackled in a deeper than Mean Girls way (not that I don't love me some Mean Girls). I was definitely in the midst of more than one of those while growing up, and it's great to see some new takes on it.

(read: 222)
