    <body><![CDATA[growing up as a fan of the detroit tigers, 1984 was my year.  the summer between 2nd &amp; 3rd grade was one spent following lou whitaker, alan trammell, and kirk gibson on a transistor radio under my pillow.  the team won 104 games, and cruised to a world series victory over tony gwynn and the padres.  <br/><br/>when i picked up this book, the memories of tiger glory still loomed large in my mind.  i wasn't much for reading fiction, or anything at the time, but i dived into orwell's claassic and devoured it like a starving horse.  it's been one of my favorite books ever since, and the first truly great book i ever read...  ]]></body>
