it was amazing
bookshelves: anthropology, heartbreak, history, horror, non-fiction, queer
Read in June, 2009

while i question the extent of hochschild's initial wide-eyed unawareness of the horrors perpetrated in the belgian congo (because it's IMPERIALISM, dude; was he expecting anything other than greed, torture and a high mortality rate?), once he gets going this is very well done and chilling, calling all of us out on the complacency and willful blindness to which we remain subject. it's definitely something i would assign in combination with heart of darkness.
