I'm almost scared to say this about a Hemingway, but I just did not enjoy this book. Nothing happened, none of the charachters were very likable at all, I did not feel a connection to any of then really and the book was really just boring in some parts.

Brett is awful. I really do not understand why nearly all the men in the book are infatuated with her. Maybe she's pretty and charasmatic, but honestly I think she's a sociopath. I read somewhere that Hemingway was sexist and this was his way of showing how he feels about independent women..that they're skanks.

The biggest thing I got from this book was a desire to got to Europe and drink and eat with friends. These people's lives revolved around alcohol, and I realize it's Europe and drinking is different there, but really these people's livers will be gone by the time their 50.

I would just like to point out that when I was scrolling down this thread that I saw very, very few people hid their reviews because of spoilers compared to other books. This is simply because there is nothing to spoil, nothing happens!
