This is the third book that I read for my book club, and my favorite by far. Somewhere between 4 and 5 stars, but I decided to be generous. I loved the way this book was written. The narrator spoke about India with such wit and cynicism. His story and the way he told it pointed out so many clashes in Indian society, between rich and poor, modernity and tradition, Hindu and Muslim, urban and rural, servant and master. And all of these clashes were told through an engrossing story with intriguing characters. And even though the narrator was a bit crazy and a murderer (not a spoiler, you learn this early on), he was still so charming and had such an interesting way of talking about things and making cultural and societal observations about India. I'd definitely recommend this one. I'm excited to see how my discussion of it with my book club goes tomorrow.
